My tires were slashed and I almost crashed but the Lord had mercy
My machine she's a dud, I'm stuck in the mud somewhere in the swamps of Jersey
Rosalita - Bruce Springsteen

Ninteen seventy-one
we all heard the starters gun
New York was such a pity
but at Max’s Kansas City we won

Come Sunday morning there's a market on the square
Children are playing, bells are ringing in the air
Old men are drinking, it's a lazy afternoon
Content with thinking that there is nothing to do

Didn't think before deciding what to do
All that talk of opportunities,
TV breaks and movies,

Well he woke up that morning
And he called into work
Put on his daddy's old suit
With a second hand shirt
All untucked, shoes untied
The people all snickered as he walked by

So great an area of land that from her western shores
Those beautiful sailors journeyed to the South
And the North Americas with ease
In their ships with painted sails
To the East, Africa was a neighbor
Across a short strait of sea miles

Runnin' home to some small Ohio town
Jesus send some good women to save all your clowns
And Circus Boy dances like a monkey on barbed wire  --  I've always had the crazy image of a very young Mickey Dolenz on this line, the few times I've heard this old gem.  If Bruce had spelled it Monkee, I would have flipped.

Wild Billy's Circus Story  --  Bruce Springsteen

Next Lyrics: One of my favorite songs by this band.  I'll bet that you guys know who actually wrote this well written song.
Bonus points if you know the area that was the inspiration for the song.

Your local rock group down the street
Is trying hard to learn this song
To serenade the weekend squire
Just came out to mow his lawn

Pleasant Valley Sunday - The Monkees

I DID know that Carole King and Gerry Goffin had written this gem.
But I do not deserve the bonus points because I had to look up that part of the question.
West Orange, New Jersey!
I'll bet clean knew that one!

And Cobra, I will now forever think of Mickey Dolenz when I listen to Bruce's Circus Story.
Hilarious!
