Vick Ballard is a power back.

Already on the roster expected to be on the 53 man:

Isaac Redman
Jonathon Dwyer
John Clay

all big power backs. Pittsburgh needed a speed back, change of pace. Todd Haley needs to make the offense less predicable and you need a third down threat out of the backfield, Ballard is NOT that guy.

I like Vick Ballard but if you don't give him an open roster spot to try and make the team out of camp he could just be fodder and a waste of a 5th round pick.( see Frank Summers from 2010)

Charlie Campbell's mock draft
Hightower
Silatolu
Pead
David Paulson
Akiem Hicks
Greg Childs
Hebron Fangupo
Keshawn Martin
Marquis Maze

Good until the end, three receivers are too many and he also gave the Steelers one less pick in the 7th. I like nyb's better.

2009 Steelers Draft and Mel Kiper Sucks Thread

I just signed UDFA Julian Talley WR, Umass in the collaborative draft.

Charlie Campbell, yep, too heavy at WR, this is a DEEP class, someone will slip, Colbert won't reach.

I hope Pead is there in two, but I am not getting my hopes up.

Steeler Depot is a good site, not a great site. I have to downgrade them for pushing so hard for Coby Fleener. Any other year, this guy is a mid to late second rounder.

Charlie Casserlies second round steals is LAME. I mean Silatolu, Zeitler, these are guys rated late first early second anyhow! What's next is he going to tell us that Michael Floyd will go top 20... I think Nostradamus can rest in peace.

Rewatchewd the Steelers vs. Patriots. You know what Chris Carter is fast, if he hit the wieghts in the off-season, and learns how to use his hands better, we may have something.  THe other thing was Brady never threw a completion when Cortez Allen was in man. And Heath Miller ate them alive in that game.  Phil Simms wears Patriot boxer shorts and a Tom Brady T-shirt.  I loved it when Ike Taylor threw Wes Welker to the ground like a rag doll. Mendenhall absolutley trucked Patrick Chung.  Ninkovich, Guyton, and Spikes wouldn't even be backups on the Steeler roster, they are slow and were getting pancaked by TE's and OG's.  I hope Weslye Saunders gets his act together, he was violent in his down field blocking, he has the attitude.  Saw Wallace, Brown, and Sanders all blocking down field.  ZIggy played pretty good, and Marcus Gilbert was a STEAL in round two. Lots of good signs for 2012, just need to get healthy, hungry, and inject some younger blood into the roster.

When it rains it ours...... The Saints are getting hammered already from bounty gate and now the news that Loomis was listening in on opposing teams play calls. I wonder what's going to come of this? You definately can't go with a smaller penalty than spygate

Just been watching some tape on Lavonte David and the guys impressive. He has great instincts, can run sideline to sideline and most importantly he is a great tackler who's always around the football. The question is can he fit into our system? I think if he adds 10 pounds of muscle the guy could be unreal. In my opininon he's way ahead of Wagner and Kendricks but I fear he's out of reach when we pick.  To me David and Kuechly are the best LB's in the draft and will be perennial pro bowlers.

I follow this post very closely and have not responded, nor would I put myself in the class of most of you guys.  I was just curious if the Steelers could trade Mike Wallace to St. Louis for their second round pick and would it be possible or make sense?  I would think St. Louis might be interested in Wallace and the Steelers could address a need with the early second round pick.  I personally don't think the Steelers are gonna be in the neighborhood of what Wallace will demand next year.  Would like to pick the brains of some of you on here about this.

Absolutely love this scenarion but no way it happens.  Team are going to wait a year for Wallace and give up nothing. Hope Wallace has a monster year and proves he is worth all that. I still think he is kind of a one trick pony but that one trick is speed and that is hard to find.

Beach,

Couple of War Board changes - You dont have to make them...

82. Kyle Wilber OLB/DE Wake -  too high

88. Matt McCants OT UAB - too high - project OT

108. Jeff Adams OT COlumbia - like the kid - too high late rounder

FB Brady Ewing - I'd switch with Emil Igwenagu from Umass - Ewing is good - might be best FB in the class

Couple of adds:

Keshawn Martin WR Mich St - We brought him in for a visit - needs to be somewhere

Derek Moye WR PSU - taller WR

Danny Coale WR VA Tech - great hands and a nice combine

Chris Owusu WR Stanford - maybe I am missng something on him but he has 4.36 40 speed - needs to pass Physcal but I'd put him on the list late...

in fact these 4 WR you can just tack them on the end of the list?

StelersDomain,

Here's the thing, rumors are that the Steelers and Wallace aren't even in the same ballpark as far as a long term contract goes, and Wallace has no intention of signing the tender and threatened to hold out, I'm not sure how long he'll hold out for. Right now sources point to the first game of the season which is stupid on his part because he has to learn Haley's system and terminology to be effective this year, he's only hurting himself. If Wallace decides to hold out longer he has until the 10th week to sign, and here's where I'm clouded on this rule, but I believe he has to play 1 year at the tendered price before becoming a FA. If he decides to leave during the FA period then we'll receive a 3rd rounder in compensation.

It seems like teams don't want to spend a first round tender on wallace, and pay him the money he's looking for. I would like to see your scenerio come to fruition, and get as much as we can for him instead of settling.

So to some it up, if some team pony's up, we receive a 1st rounder, and if not most likely we get a 3rd rounder down the road at the least.

Sources inside the Steelers say that the Mike Wallace situation is not what the media is feeding the public. He will more than likely sign his tender by the June 15th due date and take the 2.7M. In the meantime the Steelers will work to hammer out a longer deal, a fair deal. Even Wallace admits he is not asking for Larry Fitzgerald money. Again the sports paparazzi (ESPN) treat us like mushrooms, they keep feeding us B.S . Those of us lucky enough to get inside reporting from a reliable source point out that Mike Wallace is not a diva and even our beloved Hines Ward held out to get his contract. No team signed him for the first round tender, and now with the one year tender attached, his tradability looks less attractive to teams like the Rams.

Back to the draft subject here, Looking like the kid from Alabama is getting penciled in at 24, Cleveland does not want to face him twice a year, and neither does Cincinatti. So let's not put all of our eggs in one basket. Remember tape is more important than the combine, which is a tool to help you give the player a final grade. Example Dontari Poe was a seond rounde pre combine, now suggested to go earlier, maybe late teens or twenties, maybe.  He was never a top ten pick, that is just the sports hoes that work in Bristol, CT feeding us mushroom food. They are a manure factory of biblical proportions, specifically Smell Diaper and Turd McShart.

2 days until the draft, and I pity those of  you who do not have NFL network and have to listend to beady eyes and tan man, along with a meatstick, a fat azz, and a loud mouth.

Over 700,00 views, congratulations viewers and posters, we built this thing. CBS has done a lot to knock it down, cannot wait to see us roll over the odometer at 1M. Looking at the column they do not have the software installed to record the 7th digit.

being an election year, Pat Paulsen is in the mix.  Even 15 years in the ground, dig him up, he's a better candiate than our current choice(s).
