Prayers

July 1, 2012 1:49 am

One must remember that  believers on this and other threads are at varying levels in their walk of faith.  Those of us who believe need to remember what we are representing and try to behave accordingly.  We must also remember not to be too hard on those who believe, but say things which are not representing well.....but try to gently correct and teach thru pm's etc.  I welcome all on this thread even those who do not believe.

Prayers

July 1, 2012 10:33 pm

Please continue to pray for those effected by the wildfires in Colorado and elsewhere.  It seems from reports that progress has been made, but that now there is danger from robbers and from displaced animals, mostly bears.  People don't know what they will be returning to.

Father, we praise You for our brave first responders' progress in controlling the fires that put so many in danger.  Please continue to guide and protect them as they work to save lives and property.  Please grant Your mercy and grace to those who have lost their homes or will have significant rebuilding to do.  Grant Your peace and wisdom as people make decisions about how to proceed.  Let each one know that You are with them no matter what they face.  We give You the glory, honor, and praise for saving our souls and for being with us in such times of trouble that we face in this life.  In Jesus' name we pray, Amen

Thanks Sis.
The Waldo Canyon Fire is about 55% contained and improving.  Thanks for those who prayed for a break in the weather.  For three straight days, the temperatures moderated and we got some cloud cover.  The increased humidity and lower winds held the fire down and allowed the MAFFs and helicopters to help the ground crew solidify firelines.  All but a couple thousand evacuees were allowed to retrurn home.  Two lost their lives, but it could have been far worse without heroic action by crews.  Three hundred and forty- seven homes were destroyed.

Many were praying for rain, and the intention was good, but the Good Lord interpreted the intent of our hearts and in His wisdom provided what we needed, not necessarily what we thought we wanted.  The first night, we had clouds- and a dry thunderstorm.  The increased winds and lightning is what caused the fire to explode.  The next three days, we didn't get rain, but we got cooler temps, clouds, humidity, and still winds.  Perfect.  Thank you Lord for Your Wisdom.

Sometimes we pray with erroneous notions, but in sincerity of heart.  The Lord gives us what we need, not always what we ask for.  we may not know what the future holds always, nor all the details, but we know Who Holds the Future.

Thank You Jesus.  Amen

"I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing."
1 Timothy 2:8

God's children can pray everywhere, since God is accessible in every climate and under
all circumstances.  Under the gospel, prayer is not to be confined to any one particular
house of prayer, but men must pray everywhere. We must pray in our rooms, pray in our
families, pray at our meals, pray when we are on journeys, and pray in the solemn assemblies
whether more public or private. We must pray in charity; without wrath, or malice, or
anger at any person. We must pray in faith, without doubting, and without disputing.

A charge given to Christians to pray for all men in general, and particularly for all
in authority. Timothy must take care that this be done. Paul does not send him any
prescribed form of prayer, as we have reason to think he would if he had intended
that ministers should be tied to that way of praying; but, in general, that they
should make supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks:
supplications for the averting of evil, prayers for the obtaining of good,
intercessions for others, and thanksgivings for mercies already received.

Father God, Thank You for being accessible to us in every climate and under
all circumstances. Help me submit to Your will today. In Jesus Name, Amen.

A little followup praise.  God is good.  Good stories of people returning home are being seen on local news.  Even those who lost property have mainly been positive and upbeat.  We are pretty much back to normal throughout most of the town.  Those who suffered loss are being showered with love and care.  It really makes me proud of our community.  This is a fairly conservative town, and there are a lot of people of faith.  Voluntary Christian charity is more than just a concept.  Many, many churches opened their doors and hearts.  An interfaith charity, Care and Share collected over one million pounds of food this week alone!

The national media have villified Colorado Springs as a regressive conservative backwater- mainly because we have resisted gay marriage, liberal abortion access, and nanny statism.  We prefer faith- based solutions and voluntary charity, not government intrusion in meeting human needs.  They don't understand the difference, but only see Focus on the Family, the national headquarters for Evangelicals, the Navigators, David C. Cook Publishers, the Christian and Missionary Alliance, and other Evangelical organizations- and they target us as the enemy.  Well, it is great to see faith in action reveal the slander for what it truly is.

1 Peter 4:

7 The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray. 8 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. 9 Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. 10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. 11 If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.

Suffering for Being a Christian

12 Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. 13 But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. 14 If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. 15 If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler. 16 However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name.

Greg, I have heard of the wonderful things done by the churches out in that area to assist the people effected by the fires.  (The same churches to be punished by the HHS mandate, figures).  Those people in those churches have surely shown the love of our God to so many in need.  God bless them richly.  I am glad you and yours are safe.

Father, we thank You for providing for the needy through Your faithful servants.  May their witness bring You the glory and honor  You deserve and the knowledge of You than will lead the beneficiaries to salvation through Your grace in Christ.  We pray for those who lost loved ones and homes and memories.  Give them the comfort that can only come from You.  Continue to give strength and guidance to those fighting the fires everywhere and protect them as they face danger to protect others, as Your Son faced suffering to free us.  We pray this in the name of Jesus, Amen
