Iverson out 6-8 weeks after leg procedure

Posted on: February 1, 2011 3:19 pm

Allen Iverson tweeted Monday that he hopes to return to his Turkish team in time for the playoffs at the end of March. But according to a statement from renowned surgeon Dr. James Andrews, that could be an optimistic assessment.

Andrews said Tuesday that Iverson requires "prolonged rest" totaling at least 6-8 weeks, along with an injection to treat a calcium deposit in his calf. The mass is in a "very precarious spot" because it is pressuring the main nerve and artery that go down the leg, Andrews said.

"He actually tried to tough it out and continue to play while over in Turkey," Andrews said in a statement released by Iverson's manager, Gary Moore. "However, he got to the point where he could not really run up and down the court because of increased pain. Unfortunately, he did not do himself any good trying to play through his pain."

Iverson, 35, will be evaluated on a bi-weekly basis and will not be able to return to the court for Besiktas for "six to eight weeks or more," Andrews said. After that, Andrews said he expects a "full recovery." Iverson will spend the next few weeks rehabbing in Atlanta.

Iverson signed a two-year, $4 million deal with Besiktas in November after a 14-year NBA career that included 11 All-Star appearances, two All-Star MVPs and a league MVP award. Moore said once Iverson recovers, he expects to return to Turkey for the playoffs and then will begin exploring options for next season -- options he hopes will include the possibility of a return to the NBA in some capacity.

AI quit in Memphis. He quit later in Philly. The guy was a competitor when he was at the top of his game. His true colors were exposed later in his career when everyone but him saw his declining skills and he refused to take a lesser role to help a team. Selfish clown.

Look at Shaq. He's happy to play a reserve role now and he tries to help the teams he is on (whether he does is another issue). As ridiculous as the Diesel is at times, he's been graceful in approaching his golden years.

AI always gave evrything he had, every game. He was a competitor. He never quit in a game and hated to come out no matter how bad they were losing. Ballhog, is unfair, AI was a clutch shooter and a hell of a defensive guy. Tireless! Never cared for his off court antics or image. But AI is a baller and I enjoyed watching him play. I don't think we will see him in the NBA again.

Iverson out 6-8 weeks after leg procedure

Fitting end to a career of a complete cancer. A couple of things come to my mind when I think of this clown. He is one of the biggest ballhogs of alltime, never won a title, and is a complete cancer to any team.  Do us a favor and never post a article about this piece of crap again. One of the top 50 alltime most overrated NBA players EVER.
Another smacked-ass of a Pistons fan ripping Iverson. What else is new? Guess what you crybabies? A.I. didnt want to go to Motown; your GM out-thought himself, traded away your best player in Billups, and acquired AI on the downside of his career. That's not Iverson's fault. Love or hate him personally, at least acknowledge he was the toughest pound-for-pound player in NBA history.

LJA24, I guess my attempt at humor was a little too subtle for a simple minded douche nozzle like yourself.  Yes, I read the article.  Yes, I'm aware that he has been playing in Turkey this year.   My comment is in reference to his announced retirement from the Grizzlies after just a few games a little over a year ago, and his intimation earlier this month after his ankle injury that he was planning to retire.  So, the sentiment of my comments, for those that can read between simple lines, was 'Allen, just go away already'.  Sorry that was too complicated for you.  You should go away as well.
