The Bobcats have agreed to trade Tyson Chandler and Alexis Ajinca to Dallas for Erick Dampier, Eduardo Najera and Matt Carroll, a person with knowledge of the deal confirmed to CBSSports.com Tuesday.

Chandler was supposed to have gone to Toronto as part of a three-team trade also involving Phoenix. But that deal fell apart Monday night amid concerns from Bobcats owner Michael Jordan.

Jordan was concerned for good reason; the three-team trade sending Boris Diaw and Chandler to Toronto, with Jose Calderon going to Charlotte, would've been a heist for the Raptors. Toronto still wound up sending Hedo Turkoglu to Phoenix for Leandro Barbosa, the only element of the three-way talks that survived.

Dampier's $13.1 million salary for 2010-11 is fully non-guaranteed, making him a strong candidate to be waived by Charlotte.

Bobcats sending Chandler to Dallas (UPDATE)

believe Charlotte is trying to clear space for a couple free agents in the next couple years...say Carmello and/or Chris Paul
i dont think the Bobcats have enough money to afford Carmello, BUT i could see them land Chris Paul. Paul played college at Wake Forrest and he may want to come back to the Carolina area, i actually hope they find a way to trade for Paul.

Bobcats sending Chandler to Dallas (UPDATE)

Chandler can't be counted upon. He will break a fingernail and be out six weeks. With a $13 million cap saving chip in Damp -- they used it poorly.

No splash, no zing, no news worthy move in Dallas to be excited about in exchange for the $8 beer and $6 hamburger you pay for at the AAC on game night. Boo!

Bobcats sending Chandler to Dallas (UPDATE)

I doubt you even know what state the Mavericks play in.

Dallas' biggest problem was stopping guard penetration. Every above average guard in the league flirted with a triple-double every time they played the Mavs because there were no shot blockers to protect the rim. Things got a little better when Haywood joined the team, but once Erica came back in the game, it was a free for all at the basket. This trade brought over 2 more 7 foot shot blockers and sent the biggest waste of space on the team packing.

All Chandler needs to do is alter/block shots and dunk the ball when Kidd sets him up -- that's it. The secondary offense needs to come from Butler, Marion, Terry, Roddy B., and hopefully the rookie from USF -- all of which are more than capable.

Bobcats sending Chandler to Dallas (UPDATE)

What kind of messed up front office is this when the GM can make a deal and the owner can them overrule it

Bobcats sending Chandler to Dallas (UPDATE)

First of all, Michael Jordan is not the GM...

second, Chandler is a waste of money. His contract is way too pricey for an always-injured center who's always "about to break out" who does nothing but rebound. At least Dampier defends alright.

Bobcats sending Chandler to Dallas (UPDATE)

Goes to show how ignorant Jordan was about his own boss (Jerry Krause). He would never give him any credit for putting a championship team together. He was always quick to remind Krause that he was draft by Rod Thorn. It also shows that great players with Championship rings doesn't equate to becoming general managers with championship rings.

In other words....Jordan doesn't know squat about talent.

blech

this deal stinks.  all the talk about how we were holding a virtual lottery ticket with Dumpier's 13mil non-guaranteed contract.  so many teams trying to dump salary of real good players in the past year, and this is what we get?  an offensively-challenged center?  what's that, the 7th in a row in Dallas?!?!  you must be kidding me.

i thought the Mavs were talking about how they needed to surround Dirk with more offensive weapons and options so he didn't feel like he had to do it all.  this sure as hell ain't gonna solve that.

when the team is handicapped by poor decisions and the salary cap, this was a one time get-out-of-jail free card and Cuban blew it.  I can't believe we could not find someone better for 13+ million on the books from a team looking for a salary dump.  turrible.

back to 50-32 out in round 1.  zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Bobcats sending Chandler to Dallas (UPDATE)

Salary dump trade... thats it.  If anyone doesn't realize that then they need to educate themselves on the state of the NBA and a few franchises.

I believe Charlotte is trying to clear space for a couple free agents in the next couple years...say Carmello and/or Chris Paul.  Whether they do it or not remains a question but this is a start.

Jose Calderon would have been a hindrance of a contract and if they were planning to try to get Paul, then they couldn't take on that contract.

Bobcats sending Chandler to Dallas (UPDATE)

I don't think this is newsworthy, at least not frontpage worthy.  All of those players are crap.  They are benchwarmers for the benchwarmers.

Bobcats sending Chandler to Dallas (UPDATE)

Tyson Chandler is just now coming into his own as a future rising star
he's garbage. I rather have Dampier than Tyson "injury prone" Chandler. This is a good move for the Bobcats, now, hopefully they can find a way to do a deal for another point guard and get rid of Boris Diaw.
