Artest: Cavs 'nothing' without LeBron

Posted on: January 22, 2010 9:01 pm

NEW YORK – Ron Artest is always good for a laugh, even the night after the Lakers lost to the Cavs for the second time this season. But in this case, he has a point.

Asked before the Lakers played the Knicks Friday night if the Cavs would be a playoff team without LeBron, Artest didn’t hesitate.

“Actually I thought about that [Thursday],” Artest said. “If you take LeBron off that team, no. They’re not. They’re nothing. Not that they’re nothing, they’re still human beings. But you take him off that team, no. I guess that’s why they got me, to take him out of the game. [Thursday] it didn’t work. They got us this year, so all we can do is move on from that and see what happens in the playoffs.”

Artest, who is from Queensbridge – a rough neighborhood just across the East River from Manhattan – always attracts a crowd of reporters when he plays at the Garden. He still represents one of many might-have-beens for the Knicks after the team passed on the former St. John’s star in the 1999 draft, when they picked Frederic Weis instead.

“No disrespect to Cleveland, but we need some star power here in New York,” Artest said. “We need some legit star power, so I can come down and beat up on ‘em. We still need some star power here in New York. We need one of those big-time players to come here and get a great team, and when the Lakers play the Knicks, we beat ‘em by like 40 or 50 points. It would be great hopefully one day to see a New York-L.A. championship. I don’t have any power to do that, but it would be nice.”

Don't blame me, Cavs fans. I don't make the news. I merely report it.

Artest: Cavs 'nothing' without LeBron

What you just said Jake121595 is one of the smartest things I've read on this in a while lol.
I agree totally with you, and now that Lebrons gone and the Cavs are having major issues, "partly cause of injurys"
"party cause of not having the heart right now" but still major issues I think Artests view is being justified.
Hopefully the Cav's will be good again next year though!

I'm not disagreeing with you Arinze.  It was a stupid question that the Media alrleady knew the answer to.  I'm just arguing with the Laker fans saying that they are anything closer to a complet team than the Cavs are......and I'm a Celtic fan for God sakes.  None of those teams are more well rounded than we are.  Unfortunately we don't have one player even close to the caliber of Lebron or Kobe.

Artest: Cavs 'nothing' without LeBron

OK here's what I don't get.  What is the seperation between regular life and "star" life?  I'm so tired of seeing people post messages so contradictive, so hating of these guys when they are no different.  This reminds me of TO.  I mean for crying out loud, it's the media who asked him the question.  It's not like Artest came out and said guess what I think about the Cavalier's minus Lebron.  No kidding.  The world all knows how freaking terrible this team would be without him.  25 wins tops, instead they have him.  Just like the Knicks if they were to get him would instantly go from a 25 win team this year to 60 win team next year.  THE MEDIA is responsible, not Artest.  What do you want from him?  Would you prefer that when asked that question Artest responds with you know what, although the entire world knows the answer to your question...I believe there are CBS bloggers that would just utterly upset if I was to tell you the truth, therefore I'm going to lie to you and say that this team is a very strong team that doesn't rely on just one person night in and night out.  I mean come on PEOPLE!!!! You are basically saying you'd either 1.  like him to lie 2.  prefer that he keeps his mouth shut and then of course have nothing to write about because this story wouldnt' exist, as wouldn't just about any other sports article.  In case you weren't aware, the basis of sports and the competitive nature is that the views of one is different from teh other.  There is no black and white when it comes to sports.  You can argue all day about what team was better, even when the seasons done, rarely is it the team that was the best all year, that actually takes home the championship.  Yet in this very nature of just what sports is about, you get upset by his remarks.  I'm just tired of reading the posts.  It's like every time a guy gets arrested you will have your share of fans of the team supporting him, the rest of the fans calling him a this or that.  Meanwhile those same fans calling him this or that have a criminal history of their own.  Time to stop reading into the article the way you want and take an extra 5 seconds to answer a few questions like.....why was this question brought about?  would I rather he lie to me or tell the truth, or walk away?  or better yet in the last example, would I be hypocritical if I tore so and so apart for something I've done myself.

Very true Irishlad.  None of the teams the past 20 years can even come close to competing against the true dominant teams of the 1980's Lakers, Celtics, Sixers, and Pistons.  The team concept is gone.  Although Jordan, Lebron, and Kobe are phenomenal players, none of their teams could be in the same room with the aforementioned teams.

And all those championship Bulls team were nothing without Jordan!  Come on that was stupid question and Artest was not smart enough to avoid the question.  The answer should have been, "I guess we won't know until Lebron is either hurt or leaves Cleveland".

I agree with you and Artest but my response was to the people who think Cavs are a 1 man team and the Lakers are not.  The Lakers are much more of a one man team than the Cavs are.  Kobe couldn't win a title till last year without Shaq, Wade wouldn't have won one without Shaq, and Lebron coudn't win one without Shaq either.  That ends this year..assuming my Celtics don't knock them off which I don't think they can.
