Things keep buzzing along. Here's the latest gathered from executives, agents, and others in the know:
* The Shawn Marion-to-Dallas trade being discussed with Toronto went dormant for about 24 hours, but picked up steam Wednesday. The Raptors are making inroads in their efforts to recruit a third team to facilitate the deal, thus satisfying Toronto's requirement to clear cap space for its signing of Hedo Turkoglu. The pieces Dallas would want to move include Jerry Stackhouse, whose $7 million contract for next season is only guaranteed for $2 million. Toronto's efforts to include Marcus Banks and his $9.3 million due over the next two seasons are being met with resistance, one NBA front office source said. The third team, likely to be Memphis, would have little incentive to get involved unless it was getting cash and/or a draft pick.
UPDATE: The Marion deal was consummated early Thursday, pending league approval. It's a four-team, sign-and-trade blockbuster that sends Marion to Dallas with a new five-year contract; Jerry Stackhouse to Memphis to be bought out with $2 million provided by the Mavs; and Turkoglu from Orlando to Toronto in a sign-and-trade that lands the Magic a sizeable trade exception. Other players/pieces involved. All the details here.
* Antonio McDyess has agreed to sign with the Spurs, a three-year deal believed to be in the $15-million range.
* Mike Bibby agreed to a three-year, approximately $18 million deal to stay with the Hawks.
* The Raptors agreed to a five-year, $50 million extension with Andrea Bargnani, adding to the $6.5 million Bargnani is due next season. There is as an opt-out after the fourth year, according to a source.
* The Cavs appear close to re-signing forward Anderson Varejao.
UPDATE: Varejao has agreed to a six-year, approximately $50 million deal with the Cavs, his agent, Dan Fegan, told the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
* The Pistons made their agreements with Ben Gordon (five years, $55 million) and Charlie Villanueva (five years, $35 million) official on Wednesday. Ron Artest signed his five-year, $34.3 million deal with the Lakers and was introduced in L.A. The contract for the full mid-level exception includes an early termination option after the fourth year, according to a source.
* The Heat and Grizzlies appear willing to offer Allen Iverson a one-year deal at or close to the mid-level exception after Iverson had first hoped that a sign-and-trade could be worked out sending him from Detroit to Chicago.
UPDATE: The Nuggets have re-signed Chris "Birdman" Anderson to a five-year deal. The Denver Post reports that it could be worth as much as $26 million.
* The Cavaliers have agreed to the framework of a deal with free agent swingman Anthony Parker, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Parker was one of the players Toronto couldn't keep in order to make room for Turkoglu.
UPDATE: The Pacers landed their first free agent of the summer, agreeing to a four-year, $11 million deal with Nuggets guard Dahntay Jones, agent Mark Bartelstein told the Indianapolis Star.
* Free agent forward Zaza Pachulia is staying in Atlanta, agreeing to a four-year deal with the Hawks.

varejaoit's a good thing the cavs are close to resigning anderson varejao, because no body seems to want to come to cleveland because of the possibility of Lebron leaving in 2010, even though there is a 90 percent chance that he will stay in cleveland, i hope they get anderson back, because he improved vastly this past season, and could average around or over 10 rebounds a game this come year. |

Cavs pick ups thus far......The Cavaliers made a no nonsense move in picking up Shaq. Didn't cost them anything. They gave up Wallace and Sasha, nothing special. They still have to make a move. Not sure if he signed yet, but would like to see them sign Mcdaniels who played with the Pacer's last year. Not a great pick up but an improvement. |

Free Agent Buzz (UPDATE)Bosh is not going to Cleveland. They cannot afford both him and the King, especially with Shaq and Big-Z there. I can see Bosh as a Knick and if we cannot get the King, they will really try to sign him. Bosh has played in Toronto all these years and I can't see him leaving Toronto for the Middle American city of Cleveland. If he is to play with Lebron, it is more likely in NY because they have a lot of expiring contracts in 2010 and if they can find a way to move Curry, they would have even more money. |

Free Agent Buzz (UPDATE)Shaq and Z are both expiring contracts. Cavs will have the most money under cap in 2010. Plenty to sign 2 max contract type players. They are in an excellent position for 2010 Free Agency while still having a solid team with Shaq aboard for this 1 year |

Free Agent Buzz (UPDATE)Shaq's contract is up and so is Z's next year. The Cavs will have a TON of cap space to sign two big FA's next summer. As far as leaving Toronto for a mid-American city not being likely, Bosh will go where he gets the money and a chance to win. IF the Cavs can keep LeBron and offer big if not the best money, why wouldn't Bosh go there??? Do you think the allure of NYC is that big that everyone wants to go there? Don't get me wrong, New York is a great city (I have some very good friends from NYC) but the team hasn't been s&!t for years now and marketing and sponsorhips find the big players no matter where they play. Could the Knicks clean up with a couple big signings next summer? Sure could. But so could Cleveland. Difference is, a lot of Cleveland's chances will be determined by this years results. Championship or bust for the Cavs in more ways than one. |

Free Agent Buzz (UPDATE)Cavs actually will have alot of money next year as shaqs 20 million will come off the books. They can sign Bosh and still pay Lebron more money than any other team even if it means going over the cap due to the nba rules that allow teams to resign thier players. The rules will alow the cavs to pay him more money and give him one more year then anybody else. He's from here, all his freinds and family are here, (which is very important to him if you know anything about him) more money, more years, his crazy huge house he built here, a contending team and a front office that will spend and do whatever it takes, why would he leave? To go to New York and start over and play for a bunch of a hole fans that expect to win just cuz its NY. No dude-he's stayin home. Free agents will want to come to cleveland to win a championship if they know Bron will be here. |

Free Agent Buzz (UPDATE)god i love how pretendaliers fans live in their own bubble. THE CAP IS DROPPING TO 53 MILLION NEXT YEAR. THROW 20 at Queen and 18 at Bosh. Plus w/e MAURICE's contract is, you have less than 10 million to build a roster of 9 guys. Good luck |
