NEW YORK -- Talks between the Suns and Warriors that would send Amare Stoudemire to Golden State picked up momentum during the NBA draft Thursday night, but stalled to the point where one executive familiar with the situation said it "likely won't happen."
The sticking point, however, was not Golden State's No. 7 pick, Stephen Curry, who was not involved in the trade as it was being constructed Thursday night, the executive said.
If the teams revisit the discussion, there is plenty of time. Andris Biedrins, who was included in the deal being discussed along with Marco Belinelli and Brandan Wright, can't be traded until July 1 because he is a base-year compensation player. Further complicating the Suns' efforts to move Stoudemire is a termination clause in his contract after next season that would require an extension with his new team for him to waive it.

Curry not in Amare deal ... if it happensI am sure I won't get any stars from Warrior fans on this...but this deal is garbage without Curry, and you know it!!!So how about this, I think it accomplishes both teams goals...
Amare to New York for Jordan Hill, Nate Robinson, and next years un-protected draft pick? I am sure there needs to be some filler in here to make the salaries work...someone else can figure that out, I am not a GM, only playing one (kind of like Steve Kerr). What do you think? I know some people don't care much for Jordan Hill, but he reminds me so much of a young Amare, and on top of that he has only played basketball since he was a junior in high school and he has improved by miles every year. I am almost positive New York would do this, they need something to get Lebron over there in 2010...do you think they would rather have a draft pick next year, or a chance to pair Lebron with Amare. I know Amare will sign an extension to go to New York and be with Dantoni, and this way the Suns get a good player in Jordan Hill, a fun player to watch in Nate (that can dispell Nash), and a pick in next years loaded draft. What do you think? |

Curry not in Amare deal ... if it happensIf Curry is not in this deal, then why in the H#ll would Phoenix do this? Phoenix should just sign Amare to an extension, trade Ben Wallace for Tyson Chandler, and make another run at it. As long as Chandler stays healthy he will be a great pick up for the suns, and they can actually run again.
This deal is just not good enough!!!!!! |

Curry not in Amare deal ... if it happensNo way do the Suns make that deal. Biedrins contract runs forever and they don't save any money with it. I know the Suns haven't been able to get Stoudamire to play defense. But he's a great offensive player. Don't give him away. They now have depth up front to say to Stoudamire. Play defense or sit on the bench. Maybe Stoudamire will be humbled by the fact nobody in the league is offering much for him. Maybe seeing what happened to Marion's career after leaving PHX.
The McGrady-Stoudamire seems far fetched to me. McGrady makes 23 million next year. But the Suns roster right now has no small forwards on it. There is one big opening for McGrady. OKC has Phoenix's first round draft choice next year. So I would think the Suns would try to make the playoffs next year. That's why the Biedrins deal makes no sense. Steve Nash is a great passer, but he needs somebody to pass it to. |
